Zhao Zhongwei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, male, born in September 1966 in Handan City, Hebei Province, is a CPC member. He serves as Director of the 4th Academic Committee of Central South University, Director of the Key Laboratory of Rare Metal Metallurgy and Material Preparation of Hunan Province, and Director & Executive Deputy Director of the Central Plains Laboratory for Critical Metals (Zhengzhou University).

Zhao Zhongwei obtained his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Nonferrous Metallurgy from Central South University of Technology in 1989, 1992 and 1995 respectively. He was promoted to Associate Professor at Central South University of Technology in 1997. From 1998 to 2000, he pursued postdoctoral research at the Department of Materials, Nagoya University, Japan, sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. He became a Professor at Central South University in 2000. In 2005, he was selected into the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education and the Hunan Provincial Academic Leader Training Program. He was elected an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in November 2023.

Zhao Zhongwei has long been committed to talent cultivation and scientific research in nonferrous metallurgy.
