Xue Dongfeng, born in 1969 in Fangcheng, Henan Province, is an expert in inorganic materials and recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Chemistry from Henan University in 1993 and Doctoral degree in Inorganic Chemistry from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1998. Starting from 1999, he successively worked as Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, Visiting Scholar at University of Ottawa (Canada), and Special Researcher at National Institute for Materials Science (Japan).

He joined Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences as a Researcher in 2011. From May 2020, he served as Director of the State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials and Director of the Institute of Crystal Materials at Shandong University. Currently, he is a Professor at the Advanced Research Institute of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (Shenzhen).

His research covers design and exploration of novel materials, relationships between composition/structure/defects and properties of functional materials, artificial crystals (crystal growth mechanisms & methods, preparation, modification and applications of crystalline materials), and materials chemistry (chemical processes for fabricating functional materials). He has served as Chairman of the Rare Earth Crystal Committee under the Chinese Society of Rare Earths and Member of the National Expert Advisory Committee on New Materials Industry Development. He has presided over key projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, published more than 600 SCI papers cited over 19,000 times, and filed more than 40 invention patents. He received the First Prize of Hunan Provincial Natural Science Award and the First Prize of Natural Science Award of the Chinese Society of Particuology, and has been listed in Elsevier’s Most Cited Chinese Researchers for ten consecutive years.
