Masahiro Yoshimura, born on November 20, 1942 in Tokyo, Japan, is a world-renowned expert in ceramic materials and hydrothermal synthesis with outstanding global academic influence. He holds multiple prestigious international academic posts including Former President of the International Society for Solvothermal and Hydrothermal Association (ISHA), Vice President of the World Academy of Ceramics, and Member of the International Institute for the Science of Sintering, Serbia.

He obtained his B.S. in 1965, M.S. in 1967, and Doctor of Engineering in 1970 from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He joined Tokyo Institute of Technology as a research associate in 1970, was promoted to associate professor in 1978 and full professor in 1985. He conducted long-term research at the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, and the Laboratoire de Chimie Appliqee de l’Etat Solide C.E.C.M., France. In February 2010, he took up the Chair Professor position at National Cheng Kung University and has served there ever since.

His distinguished honors cover Japan, Europe, America and China: 2006 Tokyo Metropolitan Academic Award, 2007 MEXT Research Award of Japan, 2009 Lee Hsun Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, American Ceramic Society Distinguished Life Member, European Ceramic Society Honorary Fellow, and IUMRS Somiya Award. He has published more than 680 peer-reviewed journal papers, authored 3 academic monographs and 44 book chapters, and owns 30 international patents. His total citations exceed 17,000 with an h-index over 60.

Masahiro Yoshimura has devoted his lifelong academic career to fundamental and applied research on ceramic materials, hydrothermal/solvothermal synthesis, and inorganic functional materials.
