Tadafumi Adschiri

Tadafumi Adschiri is a top Japanese scholar specializing in nanotechnology, supercritical fluid chemistry and energy chemical engineering, with remarkable contributions to continuous hydrothermal nanoparticle manufacturing and biomass resource conversion. His academic posts include Distinguished Professor of Tohoku University and principal investigator of the Adschiri Laboratory focusing on supercritical fluid process engineering.

He earned his Doctorate in Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1986, and joined Tohoku University in 1989 to launch systematic research on supercritical fluid reactions. He was promoted to full professor at the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (IMRAM) in 2002, and became a core professor of WPI-AIMR since 2007. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Bordeaux, France in 2019, and received Japan’s Medal with Purple Ribbon for outstanding academic achievements, alongside multiple ministerial-level research awards from MEXT and the Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan.

His research system covers three core engineering branches: transport phenomena & unit operations, reaction & process system engineering, and advanced manufacturing for mechanical & electronic materials. He has published over 420 high-quality journal articles, developed scalable continuous supercritical hydrothermal synthesis technologies, and pioneered fluidic ceramic materials and chirality-controlled carbon nanotube synthesis systems. His lab maintains long industrial collaborations for waste chemical recycling and high-performance catalyst production.

Tadafumi Adschiri’s long-term research focuses on supercritical fluid-based nanomaterial fabrication, biomass energy conversion, and sustainable chemical process engineering.
